Ten Worst Used Cars We Try to Avoid in 2020

If you are looking to sell a used car in the Dallas area, look no further. We buy them all and you can reach us at (214) 677-6410. Having said that, below are some models that we don't see very often and have heard some negative things about for one reason of another. If you need cash for cars or want to sell an RV, that's totally cool. Just avoid these cars!

When shopping for a used car, it's hard to know exactly which cars are lemons unless you are a seasoned mechanic.  But it’s just not a good idea to go into the shopping experience blindly.  That’s why we’ve provided an updated list of cars, trucks, vans and SUVs to avoid in 2020.  The following are vehicles with just too many issues to be considered reliable choices.

Chrysler Sebring

Basically there is just no reason to purchase a Chrysler Sebring.  When compared to other used vehicles of its class, the Sebring falls short even for the cheap price tag.  This car is uncomfortable and noisy and the earlier models have low safety ratings.  Particularly, the hard top had weak reinforcements which presented a safety issue.  Also, the pre 2007 models had very poor crash test ratings without side airbags.  The convertibles also have a lot of body shake and this car is just no fun to drive due to a lack of agility. This is another one to bypass.

Chrysler Town & Country

If you really need a minivan, there are just better options out there than the Town & Country.  This vehicle started out at the top in its class but was quickly outranked by Asian models.  There is nothing impressive about this vehicle with regard to handling, braking, fuel economy and repairs.  Even the more recent versions of the Town & Country have lower crash test ratings.  Of course the issue of expensive repairs makes this an undesirable pick.  If you want a Chrysler minivan, stick with the Pacifica which has more positive reviews.

Chevy Colorado

The Colorado was introduced when gas prices began to climb and consumers were looking for smaller, more efficient trucks.  However, over the last 5 years, its reliability and consumer satisfaction ratings have steadily fallen.  Compared with the competition, this truck has a subpar interior, towing capacity and off-roading capability.  According to Consumer Reports, it’s noisy, rides rough, and the seats and steering wheel position are simply uncomfortable.  There are definitely better choices out there.

Mini Cooper

Cool, retro looks and a devoted fan club, but too many known problems to be a reliable used car choice.  Consumer Reports lists 17 major issues with the Mini Cooper.  These vehicles are inexpensive to buy used, but too expensive to maintain.  With known engine issues as well as problems with the cooling system, engine cooling and body integrity, why take a chance?

Fiat 500

Yet another car with appeal that seems to end with its appearance.  The Fiat 500 has a reputation for frequent breakdowns and expensive repairs. Fiat-Chrysler has 19 models listed on Consumer Reports as ranking significantly below average and Fiat’s worst performer is the 500.  These cars had notable technology glitches and issues with the brakes and suspension.  Why purchase this car when you can find one of the same class that will not give you a headache in repairs.  Don’t be fooled by the flashy appearance and the deceptively attractive interior full of cheap materials.

Jeep Wrangler

For all the hype surrounding the “Jeep club,”  there seems to be far more issues with the Wrangler than is worth the cool factor.  Not only is this vehicle uncomfortably loud on the highway, but it’s fuel efficiency is a regular environmental problem.  If you’re truly devoted to the Jeep lifestyle then make sure you factor in it’s relatively low reliability rating. According to Consumer Reports,  the Wrangler has suffered steadily dropping ratings over the past 10 years.
Even for off-roading devotees, there are plenty of issues reported, including a high incident of water leaks through the A-pillar at the front of the driver and passenger doors.  Buy with caution.

Volkswagen Beetle

The Volkswagen Beetle is another car with a certain group of devotees.  This is namely an appearance thing as it’s a car that stands out on the road.  People who gravitate to this vehicle seem to enjoy it’s retro feel and cute appearance.  However, the visual appeal ends with the exterior, as the interior is rather cramped. The beetle is also too expensive to repair for an economy car and it’s definitely not the safest car you can buy. Whether due to expensive repair issues or the fact that this car is still considered Hitler’s vehicle, Volkswagen has ended the production of the beetle.  Don’t buy one.

Chrysler PT Cruiser

If you hadn’t noticed, there are a number of cars on this list with unique body styling.  Unfortunately, many of these stand-out-on-the-road vehicles are just that; a flashy, unique body style that gets attention but falls short on safety and performance.  Consumers seem to fall victim to the outward appearance and then get stuck with the pricey repairs.  The PT Cruiser is another one that should be avoided.  There are enough poor reviews on Consumer Affairs to warrant caution.  Expensive repairs and less than optimum safety features make the PT Cruiser a no go.

BMW X5

Most consumers are aware that BMWs are a pain to repair, so unless you are willing to shell out a significant amount of cash in the years following your purchase, it's best to avoid BMW altogether.  The X5 model, in particular, is known to have quite a few issues and if you’re in the market for a budget SUV, this is just not a wise choice even if you can find one for a decent price. Prior to 2014, this vehicle has too many reported issues to be considered no matter what your budget and Consumer Reports recommends avoiding the 2011 and 2012 models entirely.
Some frequently reported issues include oil leaks, problems with climate control, issues with engine parts and problems with the air suspension.

Cadillac STS

All you need to do is Google Cadillac STS problems and you’ll understand why this car is on the list.  Though you can pick one up for a relatively decent price, you will most likely be shelling out more than you would like in repairs.  The catalytic converter tends to get clogged after a while and there are notable electrical issues.  Other common problems involve issues with shifting, battery and ignition switch.  There is also an issue with air bags failing to deploy which is a big reason to avoid this vehicle. It’s no wonder that sales of the STS dropped persistently over the years.

We hope this list helps you make an informed decision!  Simply avoid this list of lemons and you can breathe a bit easier during your car shopping experience.  Happy car hunting and remember we are your home for cash for RV sales in Dallas and surrounding areas of Texas.
